A concept design has been developed for a new
Lobster-type marine boat — Project 371M2 — dedicated to fishing
and leisure.
The vessel is based on the classic hull of the famous American
lobster boats, which have remained a favorite among fishermen for
over a century.
Key features of the "lobster boat" include a low transom and a
spacious cockpit for storing catch and tackle, allowing for
comfortable fishing and the cleaning or cooking of fresh fish in the
open air. A low-profile midship superstructure provides reliable
shelter from wind and rain. The wide beam (hull width) allows for a
spacious forward cabin. Despite the boat's compact size (approx. 15
m), the interior can accommodate up to 6 berths. Traditional fishing
lines — a fine bow, rounded frames, and a rising afterbody for
better wave handling — ensure the boat is seaworthy and resilient in
various weather conditions. Its compact dimensions and shallow draft
provide excellent maneuverability and ease of docking.
The exterior is styled after the classic English wooden Bates Star
Craft boats of the early to mid-20th century. The hull is designed
in steel or aluminum, with an aluminum or composite superstructure
finished in fine wood (or painted imitation).
